Henry County Board of Education to Host Millage Rate Hearings

Henry County Board of Education to Host Millage Rate Hearings

HENRY COUNTY, GA – The Henry County Board of Education will host three public meetings in the upcoming weeks regarding adoption of the millage rate for the 2025-2026 school year.

The Henry County Board of Education adopts two millage levies annually. The Maintenance and Operations (M&O) millage funds general operations, and the Bond millage allows the board to generate revenue to repay debts.

This year, the Superintendent plans to recommend a decrease of 0.2 mills to the current M&O millage rate of 20 mills.

If adopted, this would be the first reduction of the M&O millage rate since 2007 and the second consecutive year that the board has reduced the gross millage, including a 1.6-mill reduction in the Bond millage rate in 2024.

Given rising home values, this year’s proposed decrease in the millage rate may not fully offset property tax increases. Public hearings are required any time more property tax revenue is collected over the previous year.

Citizens can participate in the public hearings regarding the millage rate by attending in person, or the meetings can be viewed via livestream on the district website. The meetings will cover information regarding the millage rate adoption and its effect on property taxes.

Meeting dates and times are as follows:

  • Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, at 9 a.m.
  • Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at 4 p.m.

Final adoption of the millage rate is set for Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at the conclusion of the 4 p.m. meeting.
